I'm planning on starting the roll out maybe middle of january 2011. I got the green light from kickstarter, but it was like 2 weeks before thanksgiving, and it seems a little nutty to try to get people to commit to the contribution levels I'm planning on ... right before the holidays. So i figured I'd roll it out after. Not sure how it's going to go, but that's why I'm posting up my concept... so I can hopefully get some feedback before. Hey, you're the next stop on the beatseqr LA tour! :)

Re: beatseqr Kickstarter 2011 preplanning

Steve, I would love to help you fund your project. Computers can't fake the funk when it comes to audio input or output, so you get really tight timing with really low jitter.

Take it from me, the self-appointed sync miser!

By the way, it was real fun to jam with you Haptic Synapses guys. Now i'm using a shore hardness value of a40 and the silicone buttons are very firm. There us some give, but they're not squishy at all. It's much much harder to work with but the results are much better.

Re: case design updates

Great work. The zip file should have both the application versions (Leopard and Snow Leopard, as well as the raw max/msp patch). I know there can be many improvements to the app, and probably better ways to do certain things than the way I implemented them.

@Matias: Yes, I have made it work with the drum rack before. Totally works.

Re: One version 3 beatseqr for sale

I was on the verge of building exactly this! Yes, it works with pretty much any DAW that accepts midi in data. Logic works really well with beatseqr/steppa. The midi note number selector mode for the faders was engineered specifically to reach all of the instruments in ultrabeat. The ESX24 should be no problem at all as the sequencer engine that Steppa is just spits out a midi loop in a standard format that the ESX24 is fine using. For clarity, when you create the groove, you're creating it outside of the sequencer included in logic, so you're using Logic as the sound source and externally sequencing it with beatseqr and steppa. You can, however, record the midi note data as it's coming in realtime with logic, so that's pretty cool. That equates to live performance capture that you can go back and edit as desired. The max/msp patch is created and maintained by Derek Scott, so I defer to him as to if he wants to open source it. I know he's considering it. I'll ask him to chime in on this topic.

Re: One version 3 beatseqr for sale

Hey Steve!
I found about your product after reading a very interesting article on CreativeDigitalMusic website. I also saw your video posted about the V3 of the Beatseqr and i was quite impressed by how easy to use this tool is. I do assume it's compatible with any DAW. I for example use Logic, and i've been wondering if there are any troubleshoots if using it combined to the ultrabeat or esx24 of logic. For example i can load any sample on the ultrabeat & then create the groove with the beatseqr ? Also does it have an open script for MAX/MSP? (i've recently got into that as well and exploring new boudries!)
Any answer will be much appreciated!!
Kind Greets,
E.

Re: silicone keypad prototype!

right, I'm using an LED Tact button under the keypad. I'd prefer to have a more advanced system, but keypads using the technology you mention cost thousands of dollars just to produce any quantity. Maybe if I get a bunch of customers it will make sense, but until then, I'm looking into doing what I can at home.

Re: silicone keypad prototype!

how did you use this keypad? since there is no embedded conductive carbon, i assume they are depressing mechanical switches? can you embed leds somehow?

Re: One version 3 beatseqr for sale

Most certainly you can! If your CNC machine is running correctly, it should be the least interesting part of what you're doing, and you'll spend most of your time setting up tool paths in your CAM software. So, the CNC router is a blacktoe, and my CAM software is Sheetcam, and finally, I'm using Mach3 to interpret gcode to the breakout board.

Re: silicone keypad prototype!

What cnc are you using?
